2020 DePaul University ASB- Buffalo National River
The crystal clear waters of the Buffalo National River flow past sheer bluffs of ancient limestone and sandstone, towering as high as 590 feet above the water, setting a captivating backdrop for this week of trail work. The Buffalo is among the most scenic rivers in the interior United States and is America's first National River. The Buffalo meanders 153 miles, past forested hillsides, mountains ringed with summit cliffs, shear limestone walls, and occasional valley bottoms settled before the Civil War. In a setting which could be described as fit for a fairytale, you will see glens that trap noon shadows and hollows hiding curtains of ferns fed by secret waterfalls. With nearly 96,000 acres of protected public land along its route, the Buffalo is home to a variety of wildlife including white-tailed deer and numerous small mammals, songbirds, and even a herd of elk.
